About
Us

The Royal Enfield Riders Club of New Zealand came about in September 2024, when Robert Cochrane Club Director and friends, saw the need for the Royal Enfield movement in New Zealand to evolve to another level. For the previous eighteen months Robert has offered a proactive solution with events, the key being a more inclusive movement, something we have all enjoyed via Wanganui area Royal Enfield events in the past two years.

Robert Cochrane has been a motorcyclist since March 1972, starting on a Jawa 350 twin and purchased a new 1972 BSA B50SS at Xmas ’72. Through the years he has owned a few more B50s, the Triumph T25SS Trail Blazer single, Triumph 865 Scrambler & T100 Bonneville, a Gas Gas 125 Trials and a lot of Kawasaki KT250 classic trials machines. For 10 years Robert made KT reproduction parts for local and overseas markets before selling the business to the USA in 2023.

In mid 2022 Robert purchased a new RE Scram 411 to help recover from a knee replacement and pacemaker heart surgery. Enjoying the RE so much he purchased a 2021 Interceptor 650 from AllRoad Adventure and has covered over 6,000km on each machine. Now he is enjoying the latest Bullet 350 while the Scram has moved along. There is also a BSA in his shed, a BSA B25MX 250cc racer from 1971 that his late son Daniel raced in NZ VMX and Classic/Twinsock Scramble events during 2008-2010.

Robert Cochrane was the founder President of the NZ BSA Owners Club in March 1978 and co-organized the 1996 International BSA Rally with 100 international guests, ran the 2004 National BSA Rally in Wanganui, a range of key Classic Dirt & Twinsock Trials events, and went on to promote classic road racing & the Barry Sheene meet at Hampton Downs, plus the NZ Truck Show & Racing Festival at Taupo Motosport Park, plus more

Robert Cochrane was appointed the Wanganui Area Representative for the NZ REOR in Aug 2022 and organized three times as many events as other areas, increased the membership five fold, and in one 11 event summer (16 weeks) attracted 175 riders to the events, the largest turnout being 42 Royal Enfields on Guyton Street.

The club focus is all about being involved in existing community events, and letting people see what we all know - that Royal Enfields are great looking machines. Plus supporting local cafe by enjoying great coffee with great friends - so come out and ride your Royal Enfields - Ride 'em, don't hide em.

So you benefit with this clubs new ideas, new events, and an entirely new inclusive approach from the most proactive Royal Enfield Club in New Zealand.

Events include: Weekly coffee meets, monthly dinner social, usually two monthly rides, sometimes weekly rides, gatherings in other centres, museum visits, plus our 3 National Events – Great Wanganui Coffee Ride, Camping Weekend & 350 Trek, plus ‘Commemorative’ Whanganui River Road Ride.
